Science Club

Students from the Stewart County High School Science Club and Girls Who Code Club recently partnered with local fifth graders for a colorful lesson on weathering and erosion — using Skittles.

During the hands-on experiment, students arranged the candy in a circle and added warm water, watching as the colors dissolved and spread across the plate. The activity demonstrated how water can break down materials (weathering) and carry them away (erosion).

Science Club students led the lesson and discussion, connecting the experiment to real-world science and even explaining how coding can help scientists study environmental changes. The event combined fun, learning, and mentorship — proving science can be both educational and sweet. Club members are Zy’Maiiya Banks, Jalescia Clark, Masiah Edge, Antoine Lane, Samorah McCoy, and Rakiyah Moses. The club advisors are Mrs. Cherrika Ashford and Ms. Joyce Onyango.
