LUMPKIN, GA - On May 8, 2025, the Stewart County School District, in partnership with Valley
Health Care System of Columbus, GA, celebrated the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of its new school-
based health center in Stewart County. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive medical,
dental, and vision care services to students and staff, addressing the healthcare access challenges
prevalent in rural communities.
Superintendent Dr. Michael H. Robinson expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the
district's commitment to student well-being and academic success. He emphasized that by bringing
essential health services directly to the school campus, the district is removing barriers to care,
such as student attendance, transportation, and cost, which often hinder students' ability to receive
timely medical attention.
The collaboration with Valley Health Care System ensures that the health center is staffed with
qualified healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, dentists, and optometrists. Services are
available to all students and staff, regardless of insurance status, with the center billing insurance
providers and Medicaid where applicable.
This school-based health center represents a significant step in promoting health equity and
enhancing educational outcomes by ensuring that students are healthy, present, and ready to learn.
